AXIS Academy · Surgical Education

Learn from Every Procedure.

Turn valuable surgical experiences into lasting learning opportunities.

Valuable surgical experiences are often witnessed by only a few people in the room. AXIS Academy is designed to support authorized surgical video learning, faculty-led teaching, structured educational collections and continuing professional learning. It is not simply another surgical video library: it is intended to help faculty turn clinical experiences into organized teaching material that learners can understand, discuss and revisit.

Learn from every procedure

Overview

Problems it addresses

  • Teaching depends on being in the room. Only a small number of people can observe any one procedure in person.
  • Recordings rarely become teaching material. Without faculty context and structure, recorded procedures stay in folders instead of becoming lessons.
  • Workshops end when the session ends. Live teaching is rarely organized for learners to revisit later.

Who it is for

  • Medical colleges and teaching hospitals
  • Surgical faculty and program directors
  • Residents, fellows and practising surgeons
  • Professional societies running workshops

AXIS Academy capabilities
CapabilityDescription
Live teaching sessionsAXIS CSM can connect authorized live procedural sessions with medical college classrooms and teaching environments, for sessions authorized in advance by the institution and surgical team.
Teaching material selectionFaculty select approved recordings and identify relevant teaching moments. No recording becomes teaching material automatically: permission is confirmed by the institution first.
Faculty review and annotationFaculty work on an authorized teaching copy: mark key moments, add annotations and teaching notes, and give clinical context. Editing and annotation tools are shown as concepts until verified.
Specialty teaching collectionsApproved videos organized into specialty- and procedure-specific collections and case-based lessons, configured by each education program.
Live-to-replay teachingFaculty-led sessions can become authorized replays. A replay is available only after faculty review and institutional approval, never automatically.
Continuous learning libraryResidents and practising surgeons revisit authorized cases, faculty notes and learning resources when they need them.

How AXIS Academy works

  1. Capture and connect: Authorized live sessions and recordings from AXIS CSM extend the learning beyond the operating room.
  2. Select: Faculty choose approved recordings and the moments worth teaching.
  3. Review: Faculty add markers, annotations, teaching notes and clinical context.
  4. Curate: Lessons are organized into specialty teaching collections.
  5. Teach: Deliver faculty-led sessions live, with approved replays afterwards.
  6. Revisit: Learners return to cases and resources for continued learning.

Applications

  • Residency teaching: Faculty-led, case-based procedural learning for trainees.
  • Surgical workshops: Live workshops, with approved replays for participants.
  • Continuing professional learning: Specialty collections that practising surgeons can revisit.

Integration with the AXIS ecosystem

AXIS Academy is designed to draw on AXIS CSM live sessions and recordings, AXIS CaseStudio cases and AXIS SWAN communities, with storage through AXIS SurgiVault where configured. It reflects the wider CogniAxis mission: knowledge should travel, expertise should be shared and better care should reach everyone.

Frequently asked questions

Is AXIS Academy just a surgical video library?

No. It is intended to help faculty turn authorized recordings and live sessions into structured, annotated teaching material that learners can discuss and revisit.

Who decides which recordings are used for teaching?

The institution confirms permission, and faculty select and review the material. Nothing is published to learners automatically.

Is AXIS Academy the same as STREAM?

AXIS Academy is the new name for CogniAxis surgical education. Only validated capabilities carry over from the former program.

Does AXIS Academy offer accredited credits?

No accreditation is claimed. Any accredited program would be announced with the accrediting body's approval.
